Estate Planning Sales Pitches Don’t Get Fooled
Too many people presenting themselves as estate planners or helping with estate planning make itches that are not necessarily beneficial to you. If someone recommends an estate planning technique that has a trademark or registered name, be skeptical. Good estate planning is built on fundamentals, not techniques rebranded with a fancy name. Do you need a will or trust is a misleading question. You need a will for sure but many people will also benefit from having a revocable trust too. But neither a will or trust will solve all your issues. You need a comprehensive, holistic estate plan that addresses not only documents, but retirement, planning, income tax planning, assuring adequate insurance coverage and more. Don’t be fooled into thinking that choosing a form or document will solve your issues. Be wary of anyone who can do many different things. The world is complicated. Most experts specialize in one area. If someone claims to be able to help you with everything you need they may not have adequate expertise in many of those topics. Are they trying to sell you on keeping more business with them, or really trying to help you?
