Christian Estate Planning

If you are Christian be careful of signing boilerplate or standard estate planning documents that may not comport with your religious beliefs. There is tremendous variation in how various Christian’s view these matters so the comments are necessarily general. Consider the concept of stewardship. How will you spend your wealth? What amounts will you give to charity? How can you pass on these values of stewardship to your heirs? Perhaps bequeathing assets in trust and naming at least one trustee who understands your wishes may help transmit those value. Consider making a charitable gift but adding a statement to your will or revocable trust explaining to your heirs that you are also making a charitable gift to demonstrate to them the importance of charitable giving. Consider the many decisions in health care documents concerning nutrition and hydration, last rights, funeral services, burial versus cremation and more.
