SLAT Drafting with an AI Twist: Introducing a Novel Drafting Process
Earlier this year, we presented “Thirty-One Flavors of SLATs” – a webinar designed to illustrate the wide variety of options that are available and should be considered when drafting Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts (SLATs). In that presentation, we found far more than thirty-one ways to craft an irrevocable trust with the trust creator’s spouse as the primary beneficiary. We planned a follow-up drafting workshop to demonstrate a novel process that is designed to be collaborative, leverage AI tools, and result in more value to the client, based on those various issues – “flavors” – of SLATs. That drafting workshop has arrived!
In this workshop, frequent commentators Jonathan Blattmachr and Martin Shenkman will be joined by attorneys Thomas Tietz and Teresa Bush to demonstrate a collaborative SLAT drafting session. The speakers will use an automated document assembly system to illustrate drafting options for a hypothetical (but not ultra-wealthy) client, discussing those options as they go along. They will consider options, make decisions, and then explain why various provisions have been included or omitted for this particular client. The presentation will explain how the recorded session can easily generate first a transcript and then a draft client communication that explains why choices were made and provides the client with a different perspective on the complexity of this work. The AI tools used to generate the client memo will be introduced, and you’ll learn why working together to draft has significant advantages over drafting alone.
Speakers: Jonathan G. Blattmachr, Esq., Teresa L. Bush, Esq., Martin M. Shenkman, Esq., and Thomas A. Tietz, Esq.
